It promises to be an energetic and immersive family-friendly celebration of West African culture.

For six years, West African Festival Inc has been bringing the colourful traditions of the West African region to Sydney.It’s now announced a brand-new African Rhythm And Roots Festival, to take place in Marrickville’s Addison Road Community Centre on Saturday November 5.

The event will feature Australia’s most prominent West African musicians and dancers, along with an impressive lineup of international Afro and reggae artists including Afro Moses, Chris Gudu, King Tide and Keyim Ba, and Apapa Mbaye and Chosani Afrique. Drum and dance workshops, a licensed bar, and a colourful array of traditional and modern food and cultural stalls will also be available, among them a wide range of African textiles, arts and crafts, musical instruments and artefacts.

Dynamic drumming and dancing troupe Afro Kidz will display the many talents of African-Australian kids aged from six to 15, embodying themany vibrant nuances and practices of West African cultures.

The inaugural African Rhythm And Roots Festival will bring a splash of West African colour and energy to the Addison Road Community Centre on Saturday November 5. Festivities start from midday and run till 9pm, with tickets and more information available from here.
