Local artist Nancy Trieu presents her photographic collectionsThe Making Of An EmpressandParlez-Vous Absinthe?at the Barometer Gallery.

The exhibition delves into the ideas of complex human emotions in relation to the social condition. The two different but inherently linked collections juxtapose each other with light and dark. The artist’s statement explains that:

The Making Of An Empressinspects the need to be comfortable in oneself, as this is the key to commanding the confidence to captivate the attention of an entire group of people with just a single look or small gesture. The collection is an insight into the innate strength which everyone has, but few people choose to embrace. By contrast, Parlez-Vous Absinthe? showcases the duality present in all humans – the need to have two separate images in life, one for public viewing, the other intensely private and significantly more honest, yet reserved only for a select few.”

The collection will come to life with the showcase of three designers, Leatheron, Anya Hurwood and Gallery Serpentine. Absinthe Salon will also provide an exploration of the world of absinthe. Plus, Helmut Uhlmann, an artist and social entrepreneur, has teamed up with rapper Davie Darko to deliver music for the night.

The exhibition runs from Tuesday June 28 to Sunday July 3 at the Barometer Gallery, Paddington.
