The Northern NSW artist and Portia Geach Memorial Award finalist Carmel Debreuil will open her latest solo show at the M2 Gallery on Thursday April 16.

Debreuil creates brightly coloured paintings of children with stern faces peering out from vintage glasses in all manner of play, a call-back to childhood worlds that play out mostly in the imagination. Her use of acrylic paint on plywood is instantly recognisable, often incorporating the contours of the wood as part of the work. Featured alongside these works will be a number of prints on wooden paper and canvas that capture the bravado, swagger, beauty and confusion of being a kid.

Carmel Debreuil‘s solo show will open on Thursday April 16 and run until Monday April 20 at the M2 Gallery. The opening night will feature drinks provided by sponsors Victorian wine company, Brown Brothers, as well as music by DJ Joe Spoon (Joe Hansen, bassist for Grinspoon) and DJ Ewol.
