The acclaimed arts venue has a whopper year lined up.

The 2017 program for Carriageworks has just been revealed, and it looks like next year will be huge.

Highlights of the program include the inaugural edition of The National: New Australian Art, a collaboration between Carriageworks, the Art Gallery of NSW and the Museum of Contemporary Art exploring the latest ideas and forms in Australian art.

A partnership with City of Sydney to mark a hundred years since the Great Strike of 1917 will honour one of Australia’s largest industrial conflicts, taking place around the Eveleigh Railyards where Carriageworks now stands. The exhibition will combine historical objects with contemporary art reflecting the themes of the strike.

Indigenous art will also feature on the program, with Carriageworks extending its partnership with Blacktown Arts Centre’sSolid Ground program, which provides young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders with pathways in the creative industries. This year, 12 additional paid internships will be added to the program. Bangarra Dance Company will present a triple billOne’s Country – The Spine Of Our Storiesshowcasing everything from North-East Arnhem Land’s red dust, to the salt water of the Torres Strait Islands,to urban life, looking at gender challenges and the human spirit.

Next year will also see the return of Sydney Festival, featuring the Asian-inspired, Kylie Kwong-curated Night Market, plusMercedes-Benz Fashion Week, Sydney Contemporary and Sydney Symphony events at the venue.
