In celebration of the Chinese New Year, the artists from Yangjiang Group will lead a series of live performances at the Chinese Garden Of Friendship, built as a symbol of friendship between Sydney and Guangzhou (the capital of Guangdong province) in 1988.

Yangjiang Group, the contemporary art collective hailing from the coastal city of Yangjiang inChina’s southern Guangdong province, is making its first Australian appearance this Chinese New Year. There’ll be a number of interactive pieces, part of the group’s major exhibition Actions For Tomorrow.

Performances include the trademark ‘After Dinner Calligraphy’, in which the group creates a large-scale calligraphy piece made from audience dinner scraps. Other activities will include calligraphy face painting and bespokepieces of rhyming couplet calligraphy.

Especially for the night, the arists will create an intimate tea garden, in which four kinds of tea prepared can be consumed to alter physical and spiritual perceptions.

The evening will also featureDJs, food and a bar from Sydney laneway outfit Grasshopper Eating House and Bar.

The event will take placeon Saturday February 14. Tickets can be purchased from the Centre For Contemporay Asian Art.
