Given her background is in cinematography, perhaps it’s unsurprising that Tania Lambert’s work combines vague narrative elements and dark, striking beauty.

Photographer and cinematographer Lambert is set to unveil her brand new exhibition at Surry Hills’ M2 Gallery. Similar to the work of Gregory Crewdson or Bill Henson, Lambert’s photographs hint at narratives that viewers are encouraged to decode for themselves, and there is a geniune power to her elusive snaps.

That said, perhaps above all else, Lambert’s work reminds one of Diane Arbus’ claim that photograps are a ‘secret about a secret’; her work is as mysterious and hypnotic as art of this kind comes.

Lambert’s work hits the M2 Gallery on Thursday February 4 and continues until Tuesday February 9. More information is available from the gallery’s website, here.
