Get ready to laugh your farce off with a play more determinedly nutty than an elephant’s dinner.

New Theatre, in association with the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, has announced the debut Australian production of Terrence McNally’sThe Ritz as part of its 2016 season.

An uproarious mess, The Ritz centres around a put-upon businessman on the run from the mob who finds himself in a seedy Manhattan bathhouse populated by “chubby chasers, go-go boys, bumbling detectives, gay orgies and a Bette Midler wannabe with dreams of Broadway fame”.

It’s gloriously unhinged stuff, as above description probably suggests, so it is the duty of all those looking for some ribald, ‘should I be laughing at this?’ laughs to jump on tickets.

The Ritzkicks off on Thursday February 18 and runs through till Saturday March 5. Tickets and more information are available from the New Theatre website, here.
