Ahhh, the ’80s. They were a simpler time: a time when video games came in 8- and 16-bit and Michael Jackson ruled the charts with his irresistible cocktail of pop, disco and funk.

Looking back now, it really was a matter of time until someone thought up a cross-promotion between the King of Pop, his 1988 concept filmMoonwalker, and the then-burgeoning world of console video gaming.

Anyone who was lucky enough to own one of the hot gaming platforms of the era – the Sega Mega Drive perhaps the most notable of the lot – will remember a game calledMichael Jackson’s Moonwalker, in which MJ used his dance powers to defeat enemies and save a bunch of children (yes, we know what you’re thinking, but the less said about that the better).

Now some footage has re-emerged of the gameplay, and of course that incredible synth soundtrack. Behold:
