High school students will soon have the opportunity to see Sydney’s best productions for cheap, via a new ‘theatre passport’ scheme.

The City of Sydney has today announced that it will be funding $85,000 to creative organisations in order to allow young people to experience theatre for affordable prices.

The digital theatre passport allows high school access to unsold seats for a hugely discounted price. Front row tickets at the city’s music, dance and theatre performances could go for as little as $10.

It’s a local government initiative that aims to nurture a love of the arts in Sydneysiders from a young age, so we’re all for it.

“The new scheme will help boost cultural participation among young people by making a trip to live performances more affordable,” said Lord Mayor Clover Moore.

The news follows the City of Sydney’s commitment to providing extra funding to live music venues and programs in what’s been a difficult time for the arts sector.

The digital theatre passport scheme is being managed by the Shopfront Arts Co-Op. Check out the City of Sydneywebsitefor more announcements about the program as they come to hand.
