Sydney Theatre Company’s fresh resident director will take the first slot of the new season.

The first show on the bill for STC in 2017 will be The Testament Of Mary, a reworking of one of the oldest stories we know from Irish authorColmTóibín. Nominated for the Booker Prize three times, Tóibínhas received outstanding reviews across the board for his work.

In this Australian premiere, Mary witnesses the crucifixion of her son and years later lives alone, pondering on life, water and wine, and her loss.

Alison Whyte (Travelling North, Love And Information) will star, with Imara Savage (who directed this year’s Hay Fever) at the helm for her first show as newly appointed resident director with the company.
