The cast of Sydney Theatre Company’s upcoming production of Samuel Beckett’s Waiting For Godot – Hugo Weaving, Richard Roxburgh, Luke Mullins and Phillip Quast – found themselves in an ironic situation during week one of rehearsals.

Director Tamas Ascher’s arrival in Sydney would be delayed due to injury – so just like the characters they would bring to life on stage, the play’s actors were left waiting for a man who would never arrive. What a strangely appropriate dilemma; something about life imitating art and all that jazz, right? STC Artistic Director Andrew Upton has now taken over the production before the play’s season launches on Tuesday November 12Waiting For Godot’s existential musings on life’s meaning will confront audiences by revisiting a text fuelled by high culture, complex philosophy and vaudevillian slapstick.
