How often have you been playing Pokémon, only to think how underrepresented Australia is in the game? How come there’s no Dropbear Pokémon, or a Thorny Devil Pokémon? Well, Aussie artist Paul Robertson has done the next best thing, and created his own set of Aussie Pokémon.

Robertson, an artist and cartoonist from Geelong in Victoria, has long been involved in the visual arts, with credits for the TV show Gravity Falls, and the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World video game to his name, but what he’s done now is truly next level.

Publishing a full set of Australian Pokémon on his Tumblr account, Robertson has perfectly captured the Aussie experience by way of a pixelated set of video game characters. Just take a look at some of these amazing creations.

Let’s just have a little recap here. Not only has Paul Robertson managed to capture Australiana by way of Pokémon, but he’s given them some of the most Aussie names you could imagine. There’s Boomer, that seems to evolve into Ranger, before evolving into Kaboomerang, there’s Veebee, Sixpacc, and Slaabb, there’s the sheep Woolees (complete with Woolworths logo), and a number of others that reference home improvement stores, chocolate biscuits, and even car types. If the next Australia Day mascot isn’t included in this list, then who knows where it will come from.
