Sabrina the Teenage Witch is coming back to TV screens thanks to The CW, but instead of the bubbly, bubbly, toil-and-trouble-free sitcom ’90s kids will be used to — the one with the laugh track, the wisecrackin’ cat, and two fun aunts — the show will be re-spun as a dark, one-hour drama series.

Variety revealed the news, saying the show would be “tonally in the vein of horror classics like ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ and ‘The Exorcist,’ and will see Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal  while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family, and the daylight world humans inhabit.”

And you thought Libby was the most evil thing Sabrina would have to deal with.

By the sounds of it, the show will be similar in tone to CW’s recent hit Riverdale, which casts a dark pall over the Archie Comics.
