Why have people stopped talking about the Tin Lids?

They made one of the greatest Christmas records of all time – the adorable Hey Rudolph.

Look at this album cover.

Adorable.

Surely, in this era of meme-y, LOL-Daryl Braithwaite-Nollsie-ness, a band formed in 1990 comprised of Jimmy Barnes’ four kids: Eliza-Jane, Elly-May, Jackie and Mahalia Barnes, should be an internet hit.

It’s shocking how few people know about this band.

They released three albums in under three years, were nominated for an ARIA Award for Best Children’s Album in 1993, and split up later that year as they got older and started pursuing other musical interests. When Hey Rudolph was recorded, the eldest member was 9-year-old Mahalia.

Hey Rudolph is a Christmas album, too, which means this should be dragged out and played — or at least the subject of ‘remember this?’ articles such as this one — annually.

Hey Rudolph peaked at #6 in 1991, with the below single ‘Christmas Day’ (Christ, it’s so adorable!) even entering the singles chart at #40.

It’s a classic. Play it loud, like you mean it.
