After originally using crowd funding to raise income for what was first toted as a Soundwave replacement, Legion Festival has officially come into its own right – locking in their first outing, slated for early next year.

While the event will no longer be crowdfunded, Legion organisers have said that initial pledges helped get the festival off the ground and secure the support they needed.

“Given that it took longer than anticipated to lock in a headline act, along with a number of other external forces going on in the industry at the moment, werealized that, even though these issues made it very difficult for us to reach our goal in time, thecampaign support had given us all the leverage necessary to move forward and fund and confirm the festival,” said Legion Founder John Sankey in a statement released today.

Legion 2017 will feature the likes of Lordi, Devildriver, Devil You Know, Darkest Hour, Front Line Assembly, Battlecross, Capture The Crown, Aversions Crown, Dream On, Dreamer, 28 Days, Caligula’s Horse, Darkc3ll, 28 Days and more.

Legion 2017 will take place in Sydney on January 28.
