As music films go, this one justifies the considerable hype. Straight Outta Compton tells the true story of a rising hip hop group that would go on to revolutionise music and pop culture. N.W.A’s first studio album, Straight Outta Compton, stirred controversy with its brutally honest depiction of life in Southern Los Angeles. The retrospective film, starring an impressive cast including Ice Cube’s son O’Shea Jackson, Jr., is directed byF. Gary Gray(The Italian Job, Friday, Set It Off), who himself grew up only a few miles from Compton in an underprivileged family, yet worked his way up to being one of Hollywood’s most prominent figures.

Straight Outta Compton hits cinemas on Thursday September 3, and we’ve got five in-season double passes up for grabs.
