Justin Hemmes is buying up Sydney one pub at a time, and there’s very little you can do about it other than take a step back and realise that he is actually doing a very good thing for the city at the moment,  pumping cash into an industry that has been crippled by silly, draconian laws implemented with ulterior real estate-based motives at the very core. Also the shabby chic motif and pub-style menus he seems to favour are quite good too.

Anyway, Hemmes has gone and bought the Collaroy Hotel on Pittwater Road on the Northern Beaches, adding to his recent portfolio of over-the-big-bridge pub purchases, following the purchase and relaunch of Papi Chulo on Manly Wharf and The Newport.

“The Collaroy is in a truly spectacular location, with sweeping views of the ocean and sand literally as its doorstep,” said Hemmes of the pub. “This is a really exciting addition to the group, and one that will beautifully complement what we’re creating at The Newport.”

Here’s a song.
