Australian songsmith Kim Churchill has finally announced the upcoming release of his fifth studio album, Weight Falls, delivering a textural and unique melange of sounds to his fans.

Inspired by his recent adventures abroad, as well as his ongoing strong connection to nature (be it in Australia or overseas), Weight_Falls has a contagious sense of spontaneity throughout, with lyrics and catchy beats that make you want to quit your job and jump on a plane.

Listening to the album, the influence England’s Bristol Beats movement had on Churchill is evident, along with traces of Buckley, Portishead and even Jarrod James present in his songs. However, it is Churchill’s unusual melodies and harmonies, as well as his lyrical originality and a sense of overcoming harder times, that set him apart from the others, cementing his place as an exciting Australian artist to watch.

With stand-out tracks such as the chaotic ‘Breakneck Speed’ and the soulful, haunting ‘What I’m Missing’, it’s evident Churchill has evolved substantially from his humble busking days. Even his latest single, ‘Second Hand Car’, which was inspired by the Canadian autumnal landscapes, has an honesty that leaves you wanting more.

Weight_Falls is a sharp, original and attention-grabbing album. If this is any indication of the quality that is to come in the future, then Churchill has well and truly pulled his weight.

Weight_Falls is out through Warner Music Australia on Friday August 25.
