Last year, on a nondescript Saturday morning, Louis C.K. dropped the first episode of a completely new show named Horace and Pete which he announced via an email to his mailing list, with scant information.

Was it a series? How many episodes? What’s it about? Is this the end of his successful show Louie? Is that the guy from M.A.S.H.? All those questions were batted around online, and the resulting ten-episode series unfolded much the same way, with the last episode not evidently the finale until it was released.

Now Louis C.K. has adopted the same principles of surprise and a low-key announcement for the first film he has directed since 2001 (since the underrated, ridiculous Pootie Tang).

Named I Love You, Daddy, and set to premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in a few weeks, the film was shot on 35mm film, and features Louis C.K alongside Chloe Grace Moretz, John Malkovich, Edie Falco, Helen Hunt, Rose Byrne, and Pamela Aldon – who plays his romantic love interest/comedic foil on Louie. Not much else is known about the film.

Who knows when the film will enjoy a wider release – check your inboxes; knowing Louie’s history, it might already be out
