Most of the new material came from Adams’ forthcoming record,Prisoner, but he surprised everyone – including his band – with an improvised song about… toast.

I don’t know what it is about it/ It’s basically just bread,” Adams crooned as his bandmates worked attentively to follow the chords. “The longer that you stare at that toaster / The longer that it’s gonna stay in.

The song ended up lasting more than five minutes, with Adams poking fun at his own songwriting habits in the process: “Like a character in one of my songs / The torture has just begun,” he joked, provoking laughter from the audience.

Adams has a history of improvising songs onstage, with ‘The Three F**kin Balloons Song’ becoming a cult hit after a 2014 performance in San Francisco.
