As a staple in pop culture for nearly 25 years, the Simpsons has left a permanent mark on society’s psyche, constantly critiquing our many pitfalls and shortcomings. A group of savvy police from South Yorkshire have utilized the brilliance of Matt Groening and Co., implementing a scheme first introduced by the often times, sub-par Chief Wiggum.

In a plan named “Operation Holly”, the crew tricked wanted criminals into revealing their location with the promise of a free Christmas hamper. Sound familiar? The scheme was used in the plot for “Lisa the Sceptic” (season nine, episode eight), in which the Springfield police force fool crims into entering a ‘police raffle’ believing they will receive a free motorboat.

The police notified those on offenses of burglary, dangerous driving and harassment with a card, stating they were the winner of a festive hamper, that offered recipients bottles of wine, champagne and pudding.

Chief Berry has commented on the unorthodox methods utilized, stating, “Anyone who feels they are above the law might want to reconsider their stance. South Yorkshire Police will relentlessly pursue those who commit crime. If you commit crime in South Yorkshire we will come for you at any time, any place and in any guise to ensure we bring offenders to justice and keep our communities safe.” This whole plan further proves that the Simpsons can be applied to every aspect of life. Keep quoting old episodes, no matter how much flack you cop.
