Call it a symptom of these violent times, a knock-on effect from the surprise success of Serial, or just an intrinsic part of human nature, but at the moment everyone seems to be loving reading, listening, and watching anything that falls within the “true crime” genre.

Considering we are a city built by criminals, it’s quite apt that Sydney will now host BAD: Sydney Crime Writers Festival, which is held over September 2-3 at the Justice & Police Museum.

Speakers include writers Michael Rowbotham, Nikki Gemmell, Caroline Overington, and Lee Child, as well as investigative reporter Kate McClymont, Senior Crown Prosecutor Mark Tedeschi, Detective Inspector Gary Jubelin, ex-judges Brian Knox and Michael Finnane, forensic psychologist Tim Watson-Munro, organised crime fighter Bob Bottom, and reviewers Sue Turnbull and Graeme Blundell.
