Culture and tradition are in a constant state of flux and metamorphosis. A joint exhibition by Tanya Dyhin and Virginia Mawer examines how a sense of permanence and identity can be established in the face of continuous change.

Tanya Dyhin takes traditional objects from her Ukrainian heritage in an attempt to explore her cultural identity, a pertinent issue in that her homeland is in a position of national self-reflection. Using clothing and textiles and material techniques of dissolving, Virginia Mawer reflects on the nature of vulnerability that inevitably comes with change.

Tanya Dyhin and Virginia Mawer will be showing their joint exhibition at Gallery 8 at Millers Point from WednesdayAugust 6 – Sunday August 17. Opening drinks will be held on Friday August 8, 6-8 pm.
