Never one to keep his mouth shut about the important topics, Australia’s foremost musical comedian Tim Minchin has slammed the Liberal Government’s marriage equality postal vote with a new song, a fantastic riff on Peter Allen’s de facto national anthem ‘I Still Call Australia Home’.

“I think the proposed plebiscite on marriage equality is noxious and obnoxious,” Minchin says once the brutal and brilliant song has concluded. “Polls show that Aussies are overwhelmingly in favour of marriage equality (not that is should matter… It’s not fucking X-Factor).

“If the horrid thing goes ahead, let’s drown the mofos in ‘yes’ votes. The condescending shits think by making it postal, young people won’t vote – prove them wrong.”

That about sums it up, and now it’s up to everyone to either enrol or update their details on the AEC website by 6pm August 24, and finally bring about the change that so many people have been waiting for.

And if you want to laugh and cry in equal measure, give Tim’s bitter assessment a look below.
