Infectious Desires brings together a significant body of work by Margarita Sampson, which she has created over three years, and marks her first solo show in Sydney in over a decade.

Sampson uses found chairs, which are then altered through carpentry and carving, spending months piecing together and sewing the textiles which are then upholstered onto the works. Her art explores psycho-sexual tropes, human relations, and an upbringing where the natural world encompasses the human.

Her works have been featured prominently in Sculpture By The Sea, with her art appearing in the festival’s inaugural exhibition in Bondi. Since then her work has been shown at the exhibition nine times, with her piece Urchins becoming a seminal image of the exhibition.

Margarita Sampson’s exhibition Infectious Desires runs at Stanley Street Gallery, Darlinghurst from Wednesday February 25 until Saturday March 14. Visit the gallery’s website for more details.
