It’s been called “wild, hairy, raucous and risqué” and it’s coming to the Sydney Opera House. Cirque Alfonse’s Barbu combines acrobats, dancers and musicians to take its audience into afairground time warp of kooky curiosities and feats of spellbinding strength and skill.

Inspired by Montreal’s 19th and 20th circus scene, the Canadian “hipster circus” was founded in 2005 by father and son duoAlain Carabinier andAntoine Carabinier-Lépine and blends circus and performance art with traditional Quebec folklore. It’scontemporary circus sans political correctness and full of witty repartee, golf clubs, nails, beer-kegs, hula-hoops, roller skates and a liberal dash of nudity set to an eclectic mix of Quebecois and electronic music.

Barbu will play at the Sydney Opera House from Wednesday February 8- Saturday March 4. Tickets onsale Friday November 4.
