The sight of a Muslim woman on screen is too much to bear for this group of conservative Christians who think they’re being canceled.

A group of 14,000 people formed a group called “Christians Against Ms. Marvel” which views Kamala Khan as “the biggest slap in the face for conservative Christians to date” because Ms. Marvel is a “gay Muslim.” This group apparently thinks they are being canceled because there are, “no more straight Christian characters from Marvel,” as if that is not the type of person the entire MCU has been built upon.

White cishet Christian males have been viewed as the default in America for so long that when certain people see someone who is outside of that box getting representation, they attack them. This is an ideology that is very in line with the great replacement theory that inspired the Buffalo, New York shooter who murdered 10 people at a Tops supermarket on May 14th, 2022. While their actions aren’t comparable to the shooters, the motivation is the same— diversity is oppression.

The trend of attacking anyone who isn’t white and straight in these popular franchises such as the MCU, Star Wars, LotR, and others happens on regular basis. Ms. Marvel is currently under the lens of these groups and is facing severe review bombing, with 1-star reviews such as this coming in:

“Disney is off the mark. Please stop bowing to the woke mob and make something genuine. Focus on your fans, not social issues. It is a shame that Disney is distorting yet another franchise.”

The first episode of Ms. Marvel is now available to stream on Disney+.
