1. Growing Up

Ed: My folks put me through piano and bass guitar lessons from the age of ten. During high school I started listening to bands like Grinspoon, NOFX, and BodyJar. I played in a garage/thrash/punk band with four mates: we were called “Pash Rash”. I was on drums even though I can’t play them for shit. We wrote songs about Ned Kellyand meat pies.

Jake: My old man and my uncle arehalf of INXS so I have always been surrounded by music. We used to have big bush jams down at my family farm. People hit BBQ’s with wooden spoons and strummed rakes with screwdrivers. In my teen years I started listening to three types of music: rap, punk rock, and classic rock. At the Australian Institute of Music I got into jazz and minimalist 20th century composers.

Josie: I listened to Prince until my dad confiscated the tape because the lyrics were too risqué, then a lot of Janet Jackson. In high school I joined my first band, Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint), we played Tool and Deftones covers.

2. Inspirations

There are way too many so here’s a select few:

Nina Simone, Pink Floyd, Harry Nilsson, Bruce Springsteen, Joy Division, War on Drugs, Credence Clearwater Revival, Arthur Russell

3. Your Band

Ed and Jake met in 2006. Josie and Jake played in a band together in 2011. Josie joined Twin Fires in 2013. We all have a different musical tastes which keeps things fresh because we are constantly introducing one another to different bands. It makes songwriting an interesting experience.

4. The Music You Make

You could describe our music as country-rock-alternative-Americana-psych-soul. We’ve just released our debut EP ‘This Time I’m Fine‘ which was produced and mixed by Tony Buchen. Our live showsare full of energy and grit. We always try to have fun.

5. Music, Right Here, Right Now

The live music scene is making a big comeback. There’s so many sick bands around doing great things despite lockout laws. Our mate Andy Golledge puts on an EPIC live show and ‘Joseph Liddy and the Skeleton Horse’. will blow your mind. All these guys are some of the best musicians in town! A shout out to the psychic grit of ‘Dean Brian’ who are joining us on our launch!

Twin Fires are performing at 8 pm on Thursday September 22 at Brighton Up Bar. CFor more info cand tix click here.
