Allphones Arena, the 15,000-capacity concert and entertainment arena at Sydney Olympic Park, has a new naming rights sponsor, and will be known as Qudos Bank Arena effective immediately.

It’s yet another name change in the history of a venue that has had something of an identity crisis over the years, originally opened as the Sydney SuperDome in 1999 ahead of the Sydney 2000 Olympics.

In 2006, it became officially known as Acer Arena, before Allphones took over sponsorship in 2011. Qudos Bank is the rebranded Qantas Credit Union, which until recently sponsored the Sydney Entertainment Centre.

In ajoint statement with the venue’s general managerSteve Hevern, Qudos Bank CEO Scott Kingsaid:

“We’re the oldest new bank on the block and we’re here to do things a bit differently … One of the ways we’re doing things differently is through this naming rights opportunity. This venue is perfectly aligned to bringing ‘Qudos’ to life and fundamental to how we reward and give back to our Members in a very unique and ‘unbank like’ way. Something that we and [venue owner] AEG Ogden are excited about.”
