1. What Do You Look For In A Band?

Unbroken Expanse has a real hunger for starting fires. Not literal fires, not since the ‘Adelaide Incident’. But more so musical fires. The crowd is the fuel. Our sound the ignition. And as long as you’ve got enough oxygen in that place we’re all going to burn with dancefloor joy and fury. We love bands with excitement and entertainment. Give us unexpected. Give us heart. Give us a good growl. And we’ll give you everything we’ve got to say ‘thank you’. Our fans always wind up as part of the band by the end of the set. We love them.

2. Keeping Busy

Recording, mixing, mastering our EP in Brisbane in May/June. Then we returned to the NT to work our arses off and save to tour this wide, brown land. We launched our EP with some Territory shows and then supported British India on their Blinded tour in SA and WA. And to finish the year we have our Born Of The Dirt tour taking us to Alice Springs, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. Then it might just be beer o’clock I reckon.

3. Best Gig Ever

Supporting Frenzal Rhomb at the Ski Club in Darwin was pretty memorable. 1200 people. Beach views. Parko, our bass player splits himself open first song, plays through the blood. The crowd is loving it. Endless stage dives. Security guards become pretty relaxed about ‘securing’ anything. Vegan cuisine. Couldn’t really ask for much more. Experiencing Tame Impala was also pretty amazing.

4. Current Playlist

The band has a fairly eclectic mix. At any time we might be listening to: Violent Soho, Alt-J, Airbourne, Devin Townsend, AC/DC, Dune Rats, Johnny Cash, Bloody Beetroots, Pantera, DZ Deathrays, Jake Bugg, Frenzal Rhomb, British India, Mushroomhead, The Beatles, Deftones, Explosions In The Sky, Regular John… Sometimes all in a mash-up.

5. Your Ultimate Rider

Our ultimate rider would include one of each variety of baby animal, an assortment of local and imported beers (to be chosen by BRAG mag) a masseuse on standby 24 hours a day, a cubby house shaped from bottled water (in varying temperatures), seasoned, seasonal fruits, ice, chewing gum, Rowan Atkinson, cans of Solo and a constant supply of clean black jeans.

See Unbroken Expanse at Hermann’s Bar on Saturday December 14 and Frankie’s Pizza on Sunday December 15.
