2017 has clearly marked the return of nu-metal to the forefront.

From top Aussie heavy bands like Ocean Grove looking towards groove based and rap-heavy vocals for inspiration to Download festival championing the likes of Korn and Limp Bizkit, it’s hard to ignore the current impact of cargo shorts and goatee beards on music.

A Bandcamp user by the name Toad has gifted an unsuspecting world with a blessing of the highest proportions.

Sending our nostalgia levels into overdrive, the album Toad Sings: Nu Metal features none other than, you guessed it, the OG Mario Kart character belting your favourite high school angst sesh bangers.

Check it out below:

Little guy Toad does his best to growl with the depth of Corey Taylor but he never quite gets there. The iconic video game character can be heard crooning along to solid gold Nu Metal anthems like ‘Freak On A Leash’ by Korn and ‘Crawling’ by Linkin Park. Worship for the late 90s and early 00s is also amped up on the album, with covers of ‘Oops…I Did It Again’ and ‘Work It’ making appearances.

Ocean Grove aren’t the only band to throw it back to the days of Fred Durst and Jonothan Davis, with up and coming Aussie acts like DREGG, Skorched and Alpha Wolf also spearheading the nu-metal revolution. Don’t believe us? Check this out for yourself.
