A Post COVID South Park movie is being released next month as part of a new franchise deal with the streaming service Paramount+.
The iconic animation show’s creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone recently signed a huge $900 million deal with VIacomCBS, expanding the show from Comedy Central.
What that means is a whole lot more South Park. The pair have plans to release 14 “made-for-TV movies” over the coming years, with the first of these coming in November.
Parker and Stone spoke to The Hollywood Reporter and discussed their vision for the new expansion. “With Viacom, we realized we could make them as long or as short as we needed,” Parker stated.
“We’re trying to make what’s on Paramount+ different from anywhere else, so hourlong made-for-TV movies is where our head is at,” Stone added. “We’ll do two made-for-TV movies every year. They will be big, but they are not quite movie scale.”
So South Park: Post COVID will be followed by an as-yet-untitled movie in December. Parker explained what the former is about. “It’s the boys dealing with a post-Covid world,” he said. “They’re just trying to get back to normal. So, it is like our show. We’re just trying to get back to normal.”
South Park has been plagued by accusations of going too far throughout its history, but being cancelled still isn’t something its creators seem too worried by.

“We have been waiting to get canceled for 30 years,” Stone said. “It changes who is involved with it. But we have been dealing with this s–t the whole time we have been making the show. And we can’t complain. Things have been going fine for us. It gives us fodder and gives us something to talk about.”
South Park hasn’t shied away from including COVID-19 in the show, with ‘The Vaccination Special’ episode airing earlier this year, which followed ‘The Pandemic Special’ from September, 2020.
And don’t worry if “made-for-TV movies” doesn’t sound like your kind of thing: Parker and Stone have also committed to making six more seasons of their TV series for Comedy Central.
South Park: Post COVID will premiere on Paramount+ on November 25th.
