You ever think to yourself that the thing that Australian TV needs most is a cross between Wipeout, Survivor and PGA Golf? Neither. But boy am I glad that someone did.

Channel 7’s Holey Moley begins production in the US next month. The show sees self-proclaimed mini-golf champions battle it out on the most diabolical courses the world has ever seen. In each episode, the top golfer will be awarded the “Golden Putter” trophy. They’ll also receive a Happy Gilmore-esque Holey Moley plaid jacket. Then, the winners of each episode will compete for $100,000 in the grand final. On their road to claiming the top prize, Channel 7 says that the golfers will face “out-of-this-world putting and physical challenges”. Intriguing.

A star-studded cast

Australian golfing legend, Greg Norman, will serve as the resident golf pro on the series, appearing in every episode. Actor and comedian Rob Riggle will continue his hosting duties from the US series. Riggle is best known as the cop from The Hangover and Mr Walters in 21 Jump Street, so of course, is the natural choice to be hosting a reality show about mini-golf.

Rob Riggle will host the series

Veteran Aussie sports broadcaster Brian “BT” Taylor takes the reigns as lead commentator. Olympia Valance, of Neighbours and Playing For Keeps fame, rounds out the cast as the sideline reporter.

“Holey Moley is mini golf like you’ve never seen before and I couldn’t be more excited to be part of this fresh, fun, new TV series,” Greg Norman told Channel 7.

“I look forward to joining the other incredible talent on the Holey Moley team and seeing all of the competitors in the ‘Thunderdome’ of mini golf. Let the games begin!”

There’s no word on when Holey Moley will air, but suffice to say I’m already getting the popcorn ready.
