Australian media personality Abbie Chatfield has announced that she is changing her last name to her mother’s maiden name because she doesn’t have any ties with her father.
Abbie made the announcement on the Fair Enough podcast this week and said that she’ll continue to use Chatfield for professional purposes.
“My mum’s maiden name is… It isn’t hard to pronounce, but it’s not easy upon looking at it, so “Chatfield” is much easier,” she added.
“Marketing, guys! You can’t get rid of your stage name!”
And, while Abbie didn’t reveal what her mother’s – and soon to be her – last name is, Instagram gossip account DutchMinty has confirmed that It’s ‘Junner’.
Abbie shot to fame on Matt Agnew’s season of The Bachelor. After filming wrapped she managed to carve a very successful media career and went on to star in (and win) I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Outta Here Australia. She started her podcast It’s a Lot in March 2020, and moved into radio to host Hot Nights with Abbie Chatfield in January of this year. She recently wrapped filming as a judge for The Masked Singer and was named one of Australia’s top 10 media figures last year by MediaWeek.

In a Who Magazine interview in May 2020, Abbie spoke about her estranged relationship with her dad. In the interview, Abbie thanked her family for supporting her during the filming of The Bachelor, and called out social media users who had slammed her for being sexually confident with Matt Agnew.
“Trolls try to get to me by saying things like, “What would your father think?” She began in the interview, adding: “I’m like, “Umm my father left when I was born, so, not sure.” But my uncle is pretty stoked about it all. He’s so proud of me.”
