Xbox and Adidas are gearing up to release a collaborative sneaker which celebrates the 20th anniversary of the console.

This collaboration with the three-stripes legends highlights both brands “shared heritage of play”.

It’s also the gaming company’s first console-inspired sneaker collaboration and has materialised as part of the Xbox’s 20th anniversary celebrations.

Known as the Xbox 20th Forum Tech, Xbox Consumer Products Senior Sales & Marketing Manager, James Monosmith has shared that the design aims to balance nostalgia with “embracing modern technology”.

“The adidas Forum Tech design balances nostalgia while embracing modern technology and is symbolic of how we look at our own Xbox history — celebrating the last 20 years and looking ahead to the limitless future of gaming,” he said.

In terms of the shoe’s aesthetics, as you can see it’s comprised mostly of translucent neon green and black.

According to Monosmith the details of the sneaker have been “inspired by the special edition release of the original Xbox console for the launch of Halo: Combat Evolved in 2001, marking the first-ever generation of gaming at Microsoft”.

And there’s also a lot more where that came from, too.

“This is just the beginning of our partnership with adidas,” Monosmith said.

“And over the next few months we’ll continue to mark our 20th anniversary by launching additional sneakers inspired by past and present Xbox console generations, including the first-ever sneaker available for purchase by our fans later this year.”
