We’re not even in December yet and an Australian advent calendar that costs $1200 has already sold out – just weeks after it was released.
The luxury advent calendar was launched by Haigh’s last year and has returned in 2022. It features 24 boxes, with each slot holding a premium choccie – including never-before-seen dark orange fondant-filled frogs, milk chocolate lemon meringue pie, and 70 per cent cocoa solids gin liqueur.
“This year’s calendar celebrates more than 107 years of Haigh’s Chocolates and our very first store which opened at Beehive Corner in 1915,” CEO Alister Haigh said at the time of the calendar’s release.
“The decorative box design captures the beauty of the heritage-listed building with sophisticated detail and complements the selection of premium quality chocolates found inside each drawer.”

In just six weeks, the advent calendar has completely sold out – mirroring its popularity from last year, when it also sold out very quickly. However, chocolate aficionados have one last chance to get their hands on the high end item as Haigh’s is running a giveaway for three more calendars on their website.
“When we launched the Luxury Advent Calendar last year we were overwhelmed with the positive feedback we received and it was a great success for our entire team,” Haigh said.
“Our ongoing commitment to deliver world-class chocolate sees us continually evolve our product range to ensure we are creating the finest chocolates year-round. Our chocolatiers’ artisan skill shines through in every chocolate crafted for this unique calendar.
“You and loved ones will enjoy experiencing exciting hidden delights in the days leading up to Christmas. We can’t wait to share it with our customers.”
Haigh’s chocolates have a reputation for being one of the most luxurious chocolates available in Australia. A regular125g bag of chocolate caramels sells for $22.50. It was founded in 1917 and is the oldest family-owned chocolate maker in Australia.
However, while the exepensive chocolate advent calender flew off the shelves, not everyone is impressed by it’s pricetag. “Sorry but anyone who spends 1.2k on an advent calendar has more money than they have morals,” an Instagram user commented about the calendar.
