Al Perkins reportedly told his former MAFS co-stars that he was “going to Malaysia to visit family” when he was actually jetting off to Spain to film Love Island.

Al is set to appear on the popular dating show this week as a bombshell, but filming of the show was completed months ago.

Back in September, the reality star was papped by Daily Mail Australia filming in the Love Island villa, and his normally active social media account went dead silent at the time.

Host Sophie Monk hinted at Al’s appearance on the dating show, and last week he officially confirmed on Instagram that he will be an Islander.

However, Yahoo Lifestyle has reported that Al wasn’t allowed to tell his former MAFS co-stars that he was appearing on Love Island, under any circumstances.

“Instead, he told them all in a group chat he was going to Malaysia to visit family and would be offline for a while,” the source said. “This caused tensions with Brent [Vitiello] who later found out he was overseas filming in a news article and couldn’t believe Al had lied to them all.”

Last week, Al confirmed to the same publication that he had told “every single one” of his friends he was going on a family holiday before heading off to film Love Island.

“I said goodbye and they were like, ‘Is everything okay? What’s wrong with your family? Why such a rush? Are they sick?’ and it kept getting worse and worse,” he detailed.

“Eventually it did get leaked and they all understood. It’s part of the NDAs and things you sign that you’ve got to be pretty tight-lipped, and I’m pretty good at keeping secrets.”

Love Island season four is currently airing 6 pm Monday – Thursday on 9Now.
