It’s been two long years since Allen’s pulled the tuck shop classic, the Green Frog, from production, claiming that Australians simply weren’t buying the things.

“We were selling one Green Frog to every ten Red Frogs”, a spokesperson claimed at the time, to which we demanded they open their books and prove what must be a simple accountancy error. The Green Frog is clearly the superior one after all: the delicious palette cleanser after the sweet sugary shock of the brash, showy Red Frog.

Still, the green frog became extinct, until a pop-up lolly bar in Sydney last year reinstated the treat, and made clear the deep hole left in the lives of Australians. The Green Frog leapt off shelves, straight into lolly bags, and digestive systems. Allen’s were paying attention, and have now brought the little guys back.

“Last year, Green Frogs made a special appearance at the Allen’s Lolly Bar in Sydney, and were a smash hit, selling out in just three days”, explained Nestlé Head of Confectionery Marketing, Anna Stewart.

They’ll now be available in a mixed bag named the Frog Family, which will feature the green frog, alongside the classic red, and two new flavours: orange and pineapple. You can probably guess what they’ll taste like.

The Green Frog will be released back into the wild from tomorrow.
