Some of the team behind Among Us are not happy after Fortnite announced a new Impostor mode that sounds a little bit familiar…
In case you missed it, yesterday Fortnite announced a brand new mode called Fortnite Impostors.
Here’s how the mode is described via the official press release which was sent out to accompany the announcement.
“Set within the Fortnite universe, players will find themselves maintaining operation as an Agent working for the Imagined Order or sabotaging their way as an Impostor.
As an Agent, players will be assigned a variety of fun, unique Assignments such as repairing the Battle Bus or calibrating llamas. Cooperate, complete them all, then claim victory for IO! Impostors must masquerade and hide their identity at all costs. If required, they can sabotage Agent plans by Disabling Tasks, Teleporting Players, or throwing a Peely Party.
Players can start a Discussion in The Bridge’s center room. During Discussions, Agents and Impostors can share information with each other via Emotes and a Quick Chat menu.”
If you’re currently sitting there thinking “wow, that kinda sounds like Among Us”, well… that’s because it is. Also, you’re not alone.

In fact, as picked up by The Verge, the developers behind the multiplayer title that took 2020 by storm are none too pleased. They’re also not exactly trying to hide their feelings by commenting publicly about the matter on Twitter.
Just take a look at this post from Innersloth co-founder, Marcus Bromander, who was just hoping for a little more originality.
We didn't patent the Among Us mechanics. I don't think that leads to a healthy game industry. Is it really that hard to put 10% more effort into putting your own spin on it though?

Meanwhile developer Gary Porter chose to point out the striking similarities between the maps now found on Fortnite and Among Us.

“It’s okay though they flipped electrical and medbay and connected security to the cafeteria,” Porter further joked in a follow-up tweet. “I wasn’t even around for the development of Skeld and I’m still kind of offended.”
Then there was the game’s Community Director Victoria Tran who was just lamenting the lack of collaboration.
it would've been really, really cool to collab haha.
just sad indie hours rn.

It’s unlikely that this dispute will lead anywhere though, and we’re guessing that Fortnite will simply continue its epic quest to win the hearts and minds of gamers from all over the world. How else do you explain that bizarre Ariana Grande concert?
