At the end of this month we’ll be given a rare glimpse into the ancient world of a 4,000 year-old Indian tribe.

The exhibition White Rice and Red Ochre will showcase the traditional ritual paintings created by Jivya Some Msae and his student Balu Dumada.

Although traditionally painted only by women, Jivya’s artwork, which was the first of it’s kind to be showcased overseas, documents daily Warli life and conveys the remote west Indian tribe’s deep connections to land, nature and spirituality.

The exhibition will be opened by art curator and animal rights activist, Ace Bourke, on Saturday June 27 and will shed a new light on an ancient vision which remains relevant to the modern western world.

From Saturday June 27 – Saturday July 18 at the Cooee Gallery, Bondi.
