You heard it right. The actor behind Gollum will be directing Venom 2, which means a mastermind is now behind the action, and we can all stare at Tom Hardy again.

For those who don’t know, 2018’s Venom was a superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. Produced by Columbia Pictures and distributed by Sony Pictures, the film was a box office success, but was not the most well-received film to critics and fans alike.

Watch the trailer for Venom 2018 here:

Actor and filmmaker Andy Serkis will be taking on his first comic book film as a director for the Venom sequel, and we can only hope it goes better than the first one. As of only recently, Serkis has officially closed the deal to direct the sequel.

There is no surprise that Sony would be interested in making a sequel to a film that grossed $856 million at the global box office, money is simply in the air.

Andy Serkis is best known for his on-screen work in the Planet of the Apes playing Caesar and Lord of the Rings with his performance for Gollum. Serkis has also recently starred in 2018’s Black Panther and 2019’s comedy, Long Shot.

Serkis has extensive work on screen and behind the cameras, with his most recent directorial role in Netflix’s Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle. Serkis met with Sony and was one of many filmmakers up for the role.

This will be Serkis’ third film as a director, so hopefully, he can prove masterful in his knowledge in CG and motion-captured characters. It shouldn’t be too hard, given his experience playing both Gollum and Caesar. Serkis also acted as a second unit director for the Lord of the Rings trilogy so hopefully, Venom becomes even more impressive.

Tom Hardy will be returning as journalist Eddie Brock who is consumed by the symbiote, becoming Venom. No complaints there.

We are looking forward to seeing how Serkis performs as a director for this film.
