Small and few details are finally beginning to work their way to the public about the Mad Max: Fury Road sequel Furiosa. Ever since the massive success of Fury Road in 2015, fans have been talking about what could come next from the franchise. When Furiosa was announced to be coming to screens, fans’ concerns were finally alleviated. While fans were initially told that the prequel would be coming in 2023, it appears they may have to wait a bit longer as Warner Bros announced the picture is being moved back to a May 24th, 2024 slot.
While the film itself is still a ways off, thanks to Kyle Buchanan’s Blood, Sweat, and Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road, fans have just received an exciting tidbit about what they can expect from Hemsworth’s character. The book is filled to the brim with wild details about the filming process of Mad Max: Fury Road and even tells how George Miller once planned on casting Heath Ledger in the lead role. According to Buchanan’s book, Thor actor, Chris Hemsworth, will be facing off against Ann Taylor-Joy’s Furiosa in a more villainous role.
This is a step in a new direction for Hemsworth as he’s known more as an action hero star from what his previous work has built up in the minds of the audience with lead roles in Marvel films as Thor and in Extraction as Tyler Rake. A step into the villain role could be a fresh look for both the Australian actor and his audience alike.
“George saw Chris [Hemsworth] initially as a courtesy and then fell in love with the idea. He’s going to play totally against type, the lead baddie. Unfortunately, we’ve got to find all of our other characters that aren’t around anymore: a new Immortan, a new Bullet Farmer, and a few others.”
