Archie Rose, the award-winning distillery that I once respected, has committed a crime against humanity. The distillery has created a Vegemite and buttery toast flavoured spirit.

The spirit, ArchieMite, was created by distilling 25 kilograms of churned Pepe Saya butter, 15 kilograms of sourdough from Sonoma and a house-made ‘mite spread’. Initially I thought these people were monsters, but I have to pay my respects to the foundations of this spirit. Vegemite should only ever be consumed with Pepe Saya butter on a Sonoma Sourdough or perhaps a Nonna’s pane di casa.

The umami-rich spirit will launch tonight at the Archie Rose Bar on Wednesday 8th May. The bar will also host a series of ‘Mitey Brunches’ from 12-2pm every Saturday and Sunday between May 11 – June 2. There will be Espresso Mite-inis, Mitey Bloody Mary’s and a selection of carb and umami based hors d’oeuvres.

Archie Rose will also be collaborating with ice-cream overlords Gelato Messina, to create gelato sarnies. Sonoma bread, Pepe Saya butter and breakfast “mites” will be available from May 8th until they’re sold out.

This is quite possibly the most dishonourable yeasty scandal that has hit society since Nigella unleashed that ghastly Marmite spaghetti recipe.

If you deeply and sincerely hate yourself and want to purchase a bottle of this heinous creation, get in quick, they’ve only brewed 3000 bottles. The gin will be available in bars, independent bottle shops and online for $9.
