Just days before the 2018 Winter Olympics begin, the rapidly spreading Norovirus has broken out in PyeongChang.
The virus has thus far impacted approximately one thousand of those involved in the Olympic games living in the youth center of PyeongChang County. Norovirus causes inflammation in the stomach and digestive system, which leads to severe diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting and is usually spread through unwashed food.
Olympics officials aren’t taking any risks with the virus spreading further, with volunteers being politely asked to spray and rub their hands with sanitizer before entering the main dining hall in the media village in Gangneung.
The Korean Center for Disease Control also recommends boiling water before drinking it and is advising anyone with diarrhea not to cook for others.
For those who’ve traveled on cruise ships before, warnings of Novovirus may be familiar as it can often spread through contaminated water or food or by touching contaminated surfaces.
With nearly 3,000 athletes from 92 countries, an estimated 80,000 tourists daily, 17,000 volunteers and thousands of journalists from around the world currently dwelling in the small quarters of PyeongChang, making for the perfect conditions for the disease to spread.
Unfortunately, it’s looking like the event could turn into a literal shit-show if things continue to go the way they do. Speaking of a shit-show, Gus and Rig of The Shitshow are heading over the Olympics to cover the event – let’s hope they don’t get hit the virus.

Even though they’re partaking in some of the world’s most physically demanding sports, their signature piss-taking nature has managed to shine through whilst training.
