Back in January, Rolling Stone Australia opened up the polls so you could have your say in Australia’s Favourite Movie of 2021.
Powered by AHEDA, the Australian Home Entertainment Distributors Association, the poll encouraged our readers to think back on the year in film and vote for their top three movies of last year.
And despite the difficulties of the COVID-19 pandemic, 2021 still turned into a big year for movies. There was no shortage of amazing movies premiering, both on the big screen and in homes, last year.
This is exactly why Rolling Stone Australia called upon you to share your valuable opinions on your favourite movies of 2021 and you definitely stepped up to the task: over 10,000 votes were received, leaving an incredible list of movies that remind us just how good 2021 was for movies.
The polls officially closed on January 25th and now the full list can be revealed. It’s really no surprise which movie came first: Spider-Man: No Way Home swung into top spot, with Tom Holland & co delivering blockbuster action with real stakes and some big surprises. There’s a reason the movie is currently beating all sorts of box office records worldwide and Rolling Stone Australia’s poll backs the figures up.
Spider-Man: No Way Home was followed by another huge Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, in second place. Ryan Reynolds continued to cement his place as one of the biggest movie stars on the planet, landing in third place with his zany action-comedy Free Guy.
Denis Villeneuve’s latest science fiction epic Dune was full of mystery, intrigue, and Timothée Chalamet, which all helped it to fourth place in our list. Daniel Craig is a lot of people’s favourite James Bond and his last movie outing as 007, No Time to Die, rounds out the top five.
