Nights out are great, but checking your bank balance the next day isn’t so fun. So imagine finding out you spent thousands of dollars on one bloody cocktail: it’s the stuff of nightmares.

That’s how much Australia’s most expensive cocktail will set you back, though, as per news.com.au. Fancy bars Dean & Nancy on 22, located in Sydney, and Sky Bar, located in Melbourne, have created a unique take on a classic Old Fashioned.

Using a special list of luxury ingredients, the cocktail costs $15,000. You could put down a deposit on a house for that amount!

To be fair to the bars’ talented mixologists, it does sound rather tasty: the pricey take on the Old Fashioned contains a $3,000 cognac, a gold-infused Chateau d’Yquem, and a “superior” French wine that costs $500.

The cocktail, called the Woodford Reserve Gold Fashioned (get it?), also has saffron, vanilla bitters and specially engraved ice, with the whole thing topped off with genuine flakes of 24-carat gold. Seriously.

According to Stefano Filardi, leading bartender and venue manager at Dean & Nancy on 22, the drink is worth the hefty price tag.

“After years of lockdowns and missing out, we’re finding our guests are eager to splurge, particularly if it’s for an experience they can’t get anywhere else,” he told news.com.au.

To get customers more bang for their buck, any order of the expensive cocktail also comes with a full $3,000 bottle of Woodford Reserve.

I don’t know about you, but if I ordered a $15K cocktail, I’d spend hours drinking it. I’d be terrified for the moment to end. Just imagine downing a drink with genuine gold flakes.

Incredibly, the Woodford Reserve Gold Fashioned isn’t even the world’s most expensive cocktail. That honour goes to the Ritz-Carlton Tokyo’s Diamonds Are Forever Martini, which is priced at a whopping $29,600.

It’s about to be a good time for bourbon fans as the annual Woodford Reserve Old Fashioned Week takes place from Saturday, November 5th to Monday, November 14th. The week – or 10-day week – will celebrate the iconic Old Fashioned cocktail. You can see the full list of bars participating in the event here.
