A Sydney mum has sent shockwaves right around the internet, with her very unexpected find in her packed lettuce.

As reported by Nine Honey, the woman took to Facebook to share the frightening discovery. She wrote, “Last night my son found this baby white headed snake in with the packaged baby cos lettuce he purchased from Aldi,” she continued, “Make sure you check packed lettuce carefully!”

The woman by the name of Lesley Khun also shared a number of photos alongside the Facebook post, which to a perfectly good job of making the situation a whole lot more graphic.

So which supermarket did this incident occur from? According to MSN, the Khun’s son had been grocery shopping at an Aldi supermarket on Sydney’s North Shore in Mosman. And clearly, didn’t expect to buy a bag of lettuce with a baby snake trapped inside.

And just in case you weren’t already creeped out enough as it is, the snake in the lettuce bag was also allegedly a baby “pale headed snake”, which yes, is deemed to be a potentially dangerous snake.

The pale headed snake species can be described as being black or greyish in colour along the back, with the head usually being a lighter shade of grey with dark spots. It also has a white stripe at the back of its head.

It is known to feed on forms of vertebrates and tree-dwelling species like frogs, geckos, skinks and bats… so who knows how the snake ended up in the bag of lettuce?

While we’d all love to know what Aldi Supermarkets have to say on the matter, a bunch of publications have reached out for a comment, however they have not yet received one. Interestingly though, upon a quick Google search, it appears that finding baby snakes in lettuce isn’t actually that unusual of an occurrence…

According to Nine Honey, WIRES Wildlife had been contacted to remove the snake safely and has been left in capable hands.
