Although Lisa Wilkinson only announced her resignation from The Project last night, eagle-eyed fans are already predicting that The Bachelor star Laura Byrne will take her spot.

Wilkinson dropped the bombshell on Sunday night’s episode of The Project, telling the panel “The last six months have not been easy”. She added, “and the relentless, targeted toxicity by some sections of the media has taken a toll not just on me but on people I love.”

“Don’t get me wrong. I’m not above criticism. Far from it. I’m human, and I don’t always get it right. None of us do. But by god I’ve tried. I’ve given this job everything I have.”

Shortly after Wilkinson’s news, The Bachelor contestant Laura Byrne shared a photo to Instagram of her and Lisa from an appearance on the show that same night.

“Boy did tonight’s show throw us all a spanner we weren’t expecting,” she captioned the photo. “[Lisa] you’re all class, and it has been not just a career highlight but the biggest privilege to sit at your desk.

“As a viewer and lover of the show, you will be so very missed.”

Wilkinson jumped into the comments section shortly after, writing: “Sorry to do that to you tonight Laura…but I’m so grateful to you for holding my hand through it all. I’ve absolutely loved doing the show with you, and | am so thrilled that you are now a part of @theprojecttv family. Big hugs to you and your beautiful family.”

The mention of Laura being “part of the [The Project] family”, had the reality star’s Instagram stories predicting that she will replace Wilkinson on the desk.

“Hope you get a hosting job on tv Laura as you are a natural and I think many people would enjoy listening to you 👍😎,” one follower wrote. Another penned, “Wow ! Sorry to see Lisa go but huge congrats to you !”
