Balmain Sinfonia returns to Leichhardt for a violin concerto with Australian solo violinist Maria Lindsay of the Lurline Chamber Orchestra.

The Saturday afternoon concert features Brahms’ Symphony No. 1, the popular Beethoven Leonore Overture and violin soloist Maria Lindsay playing Tommy Tycho’s violin concerto.

Originally performing in Rozelle and Balmain since 1991, Balmain Sinfonia was Macquarie University’s resident orchestra but now it returns to the Inner West at its new home at the Italian Forum in Leichhardt.

Tycho’s violin concerto is an Australian work with influence derived from the composer’s native Hungary as well as Russian and Persian themes from his time as a personal pianist to the Shah of Iran. Tycho was also a musical director at Channel 7 for 15 years, directing numerous Royal Command performances.

Violin soloist Maria Lindsay is the founding leader of the Lurline Chamber Ochestra and makes regular appearances as soloist with many orchestras including the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Sydney Symphony and Australian Chamber Orchestra.
