Bangarra Dance Theatre has banded together with Carriageworks to present Dubboo – life of a songman. A series of performances directed by Stephen Page celebrating the life and legacy of his brother David Page.

David Page passed two years ago and Dubboo – life of a songman will honour his remarkable career. Combining classical, electronic and traditional music with cabaret, dance and drag. Over his career Page dedicated his time to nurturing Indigenous Australian talent.

Composer Iain Grandage (The Rabbits) will respond to David’s music with a series of performances by way of string quartet, elecronica and through Bangarra’s dancers.

A notable cast of Indigenous artists and previous collaborators of David’s will be behind the show. Including acclaimed artists Archie Roach (Charcoal Lane), Ursula Yovich (Redfern Now, Australia) and Djakapurra Munyarryun. These three artists will use their collective experiences “to honour and bring his spirit home to rest.”

“David’s spirit was made up of two very different halves – that of the pioneer and innovative composer of Bangarra’s soundscapes and musical scores, but also one of Australia’s most regarded, witty and endearing performers. Dubboo life of a songman reflects David’s diversity”

David Page established Bangarra’s sound, but perhaps more importantly its “love and spirit”. Dubboo – life of a songman will take place at Carriageworks on 6-8 December 2018. Tickets go on sale from Friday, 10 August. You can find more information here.
